Scott and I decided to go off on another Epic Road Trip for New Year’s Day. The photo opportunities started with our frost and ice covered vehicles!
We decided to take the road less travelled and stay off of the major highways and toll roads. Off we went on Route 20 winding our way East. We discovered the roads had a bit of black ice in shaded locations. But, the melting ice lent itself to some fun side of the road images in Charlton!
After playing in the snow on the side of the road, we continued on Route 20 stopping for a New England staple, Dunkin Donuts and fuel.
A few turns on the scenic Route 1A and we reached our destination and parked in the parking garage near the Visitor’s Center on New Liberty Street in Salem! (Fun Bonus – free parking for the holiday!)
We explored Stickworks, by Patrick Dougherty before heading to Pickering Wharf and the Salem Harbor Walk.
Strolled along Derby Street, following signs for the Historic Waterfront District.
A short drive to Winter Island to explore Fort Pickering, Execution Hill, and Fort Pickering Light.
We had a fantastic time exploring the harbors, wharfs, and lights that are part of the Salem shore. We will have to schedule a return trip, the architecture and history of Salem are calling out to me to be explored in more detail!
I’m already looking forward to my next excursion! Leave a comment with suggestions of New England locations I should photograph!
Happy New Year!
